Urban Design sits at the nexus of the complex and layered forces that shape our cities. Our team provides the visions and physical solutions that allow our clients to guide these forces in the creation of great urban places.

Working at scales that range from the fine-grain of streetscapes and individual building sites, to neighborhoods, districts and entire metropolitan areas, our designs are grounded in decades of scholarship and study of cities around the world, and our deep appreciation for what makes cities both lively and serenely livable. We understand how private development can be optimized and how it can shape and enhance the public realm. And we understand how that public realm can engage, guide and stimulate development in the private sphere. From street frameworks, to infrastructure systems, open space networks, building massing, block and lot configurations, density and land use, we tackle the difficult problems of urban growth. We work with communities to build consensus and support, and guide the implementation process.

Our approach is an interdisciplinary one, drawing on the vast resources of our own firm and selecting the best collaborative partners to craft integrated solutions to multifaceted problems. We work hand-in-hand with clients and communities to provide the visions and plans that can catalyze urban transformations, and we sweat the details to make these visions eminently practical and implementable.
