Steve Miller is the leader of the K-12 Educational Facilities Group for the Perkins+Will Minneapolis office. During the course of his 30-year career, he has focused on the process of planning, programming, designing and facilitating the construction of K-12 schools in Minnesota and throughout the Midwest.
Steve has a passion for learning and creating ideal learning environments for students of all ages. Through research and experience working with educators, he brings to his projects a deep understanding of the ways in which learning activities are affected and enhanced by the physical environment. He works with school districts to facilitate change from traditional educational models to more creative and flexible environments that support a wide variety of learning activities and technologies needed in a 21st-century school.
Because schools are such a reflection of community values and aspirations, Steve practices a very open, collaborative design process that includes diverse stakeholders including students, parents, educators and community members. He believes that a balance of functional, economic and aesthetic priorities is reflected in each unique school design. His projects have been recognized with numerous awards and honors from both the architectural and educational communities.
