Winner of a 1998 Georgia AIA Honor Award, the Centennial Place YMCA serves a vital role as a community center for the redeveloped Techwood Home Community in Downtown Atlanta. A model of private and public collaboration, the 25,000 square foot facility functions not only as a YMCA and day care center, but as an educational centerpiece — its gym is actively used by the adjacent Fowler Elementary School. The upper level houses the community day care and fitness area for program members. An adventure center complete with a climbing wall, high ropes course and multipurpose space are designed to accommodate athletics, education and the arts.
