Beirut International Airport
Terminal Expansion
Beirut, Lebanon
The expansion and restoration of the Beirut International Airport was among the first projects to be expedited in a national development program for Lebanon.
Design of the 23-gate terminal expands the existing operating facility by four times to 113,000 square meters (1.2 million square feet) allowing accommodation of six million passengers per year. Alternative runway configurations permit additional capacity to serve 10 to 15 million passengers. An expanded front entry improves circulation and visitor areas while creating a new functional and aesthetic image.
Significant improvements increase operational efficiency in security, baggage handling, support facilities and lease space for retail and office. Convenient access directly into the terminal is provided by a 69,000 square meter (745,000 square foot) parking structure for 2,400 cars.
