Cardinal Health, a Fortune 500 company serving the healthcare industry, retained our team to provide workplace consulting and interior design services to accommodate more than 1000 additional employees.

The goal of this expansion was to create common connectors to leverage Cardinal Health systems, talent and cross-functional teaming opportunities. Given the scale and scope of the company, ongoing change within the organization was also the norm. With the need to create connections in an environment of change, the team created a flexible planning chassis that allowed the project to move forward as user needs evolved through reorganization and acquisition strategies as well as provided adaptability as the company continues to evolve over time. We engaged Cardinal Health executive leadership and general staff in a series of dialogues regarding key business processes and the ways in which design solutions might better support those processes in order to understand the functional needs driving the development of the chassis.

The result of the planning and design process is an office planning approach that acts as a precedent for all of Cardinal Health real estate. The final solution is an intuitive and functional work environment that offers a high level of spatial quality with a variety of experiences to support staff needs, bright open office areas with stellar views into the Cardinal Health campus and effective wayfinding for visitors and staff. Programmatic elements include the work environments, a fitness center, an employee cafeteria, an employee credit union and a welcoming lobby that echoes Cardinal Health’s brand identity. The expansion is linked to the existing facility by a pedestrian bridge crossing a wooded ravine. This bridge provides both a connection to the East Campus as well as a central meeting location for teams seeking some measure of solitude and/or reflection.
