Perkins+Will is participating in the current design and development of the Huang Xing Project in the Yangpu District of Shanghai. Located in the Wujianchang area north of the Huang Pu river, the 115,000 sm above-ground development is part of the rapidly expanding office, retail and commercial sector within the city. The design of the plot focuses on creating a harmonic balance of architecture and open space catering to the needs and well being of the occupants of this densely urban environment.

The three-part program includes a twenty storey corporate headquarters for HuaiNan Mining Company plus two service office towers at 24 and 20 stories, respectively. The complex of towers is surrounded by multi-level walk up retail and commercial. The towers and retail "ribbons" are organized on the site to create both highly active plazas and activity nodes as well as quieter resident respites. The green space and open areas are an amenity to the building occupants and the surrounding neighborhood. Above the organization of the towers creates a natural harmony that maximizes views beyond the site to the city surrounding. The urban block development and its complement of activities will become a landmark and destination for the Yungpu district of Shanghai.
