MHPM’s new state-of-the-art office environment reflects the firm’s leadership within the construction management industry to their client base. Key goals for the project included demonstration of MHPM’s core values through adherence to best practices in modern workplace design.

Our team worked closely with MHPM to address the programmatic challenges and uncover opportunities in space organization. Maximum flexibility was achieved through standardized workstations, allowing teams to expand or contract on an as-need basis. The open-office layout facilitates knowledge sharing and collaboration between teams and ensures employees are accessible to one another. This workplace set-up facilitates ease of expansion and growth as it occurs.

Our team studied MHPM’s existing workstation module and established the most efficient orientation, configuration and relationship to the built environment. Attention to interior space orientation, availability of day-light, natural ventilation and indoor air quality acknowledges the importance of human health and comfort in employee recruiting, retention and productivity.

The key feature of this office space is the boardroom located adjacent to the reception area. The glass doors open onto a large corridor which enables the room to expand, spilling into the corridor space for presentations or reception purposes. All electrical and data services are flush mounted into the floor to eliminate any uneven surfaces and allow the space to serve as an open area for social functions.

Sustainable strategies used throughout the design process included reuse of existing workstations, re-skinning existing furniture, the addition of glazed partitions to maximize daylight penetration and retaining existing concrete floors. The client embraced the imperfections of reused sustainable materials such as wood, which acts as a warm, natural feature within the space and puts sustainability on display. Careful analysis of solar orientation created opportunities to fill indoor spaces with natural light and minimize dependence on artificial lighting. No noxious materials were specified and generous amounts of fresh air easily reach staff.

The project is targeting LEED-CI Gold certification.
