Life Sciences Collaborative Building Program and Concept Design
Portland, Oregon
Design Completion Date: 2009
Square Footage: 300,000

Subsequent to our master planning work for the Schnitzer Campus of Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU), Perkins+Will was engaged to develop an initial program and conceptual design for the Life Sciences Collaborative Building. This interdisciplinary facility is a shared vision of the Oregon University System and OHSU, and it is the initial phase establishing the Schnitzer campus as a life and health sciences education center in the South Waterfront district of Portland, Oregon. Based on the principles of collaboration, integration and synergy, the Life Sciences Collaborative Building brings together the intellectual resources of the OUS institutions, OHSU and other public and private partners. This initial effort helped the client explore their goal to grow the health professions workforce; significantly expand basic and translational biomedical research; provide facilities for professional health education and private industry partnerships; and stimulate economic development. The new building will foster an interdisciplinary and inter-professional learning environment with shared access to 21st century simulation spaces, classrooms and laboratories for the schools of dentistry, nursing and medicine.
