The Queen Elizabeth Park Community and Cultural Centre is an adaptive reuse project that takes a shuttered high school building in Oakville and transforms it into a recreation and cultural center. The ambition for this program is to create a unique combination of a cultural incubator for numerous artists and performing groups based in Oakville combined with a community recreation center for the local residents.
Sustainability was the driving force behind the decision to adapt and reuse the existing Queen Elizabeth Park structure. Adapting the existing school building has proven an ideal choice for this project because it has the space to house the entire program for the Community and Cultural Centre at a lower cost than demolition and new construction.
