Our project goals for Sabine Hall Science Building were guided by Richland College's mission, "Teaching, learning and community building". Setting design standards for the next generation of growth on campus and meeting the needs of modern science education in a dynamic, high-volume and densely scheduled community college were our two additional objectives for this facility.

Sabine Hall houses 16 state-of-the-art, sustainable laboratories for the college's programs in biology, chemistry, physics and geosciences. More than 80 small group seating areas are scattered throughout the building for informal study and socialization. A 2-story gallery space showcases science-related art. A "science corner" provides a supportive environment for mentoring students and a faculty office suite promotes collegiality and provides shared space. A bookstore, coffee bar and conference rooms provide additional shared resources.

The building is designed and built to LEED Platinum standards with systems and operations minimizing the campus' carbon footprint and its negative impact on the environment. In addition to a 43% energy reduction, we expect water consumption to be reduced by more than 50%.

The campus is a tribute to our legacy in educational design. Planned and designed by our firm more than 25 years ago and beautifully sited along a natural stream, it has withstood the "test of time" and continues to grow according to our original master plan concepts. The Richland campus was awarded the Dallas AIA 25-Year Design Award.
