The Cancer Assessment Centre was a 13,000 square foot renovation of an existing floor at The Ottawa Hospital General Campus. The Cancer Assessment Centre is based on an integrated, multi-disciplinary model of care and focuses on 3 disease sites: Colorectal, Prostate and Thoracic/Lung cancer. Providing family and patient focus, the design ensures a clinically advanced, efficient and compassionate environment.
A detailed study of complex existing mechanical and electrical systems and ongoing discussions with staff and patients arrived at an optimal solution for a demanding program. A creative addition to the functional program added a small library component to the wait area so that patients can read and research their own initiative while waiting for appointments.
