TRIA Orthopaedic Center
Bloomington, Minnesota
Completion Date: 2005
Square Footage: 100,000

The 100,000 square foot TRIA Orthopaedic Center is a model of operational efficiency combined with spa-like amenities. In a uniquely collaborative effort, we worked with a team that includes the University of Minnesota, the Orthopaedic Center practice and Park Nicollet Health Services.

The 3 1/2-story facility includes a clinic, an outpatient surgery center with six operating rooms and two procedure rooms, diagnostic imaging with two MRIs, complete physical therapy facilities and a motor skills lab for research and training. Lean operations are a project focus with operating room planning grouped in pods shortening the time doctors and nurses need to get to patients, supplies and perform procedures.

Lean operations occur behind the scenes while the design of the facility provides for patient relaxation, comfort and privacy. Simple palettes of wood, metal and glass are woven with soft colors making the environment soothing and low stress. Soft lighting reinforces the comfort of the environment while patient care areas are arranged along the perimeter of the floorplate allowing natural daylight and a connection to the outdoors.

TRIA houses the latest orthopaedic technology in a fully digital, wireless and paperless environment. The OR suites, conference center and bioskills labs are fully connected via audio and video technology to allow real time communication and observation for education purposes. Research studies keep TRIA's physicians and employees focused on the most sophisticated procedures and products related to the care and treatment of orthopaedic patients within a soothing, relaxing environment.
