The Hearst Memorial Gymnasium is one of the most architecturally and culturally significant buildings on the University of California’s Berkeley campus. This large Beaux Arts complex houses three ornate outdoor pools, a series of large and small gymnasia and recreation rooms and various university departments.

The renovated Hearst Memorial Gymnasium is a hub for students and university life through the diversity of its activities and its ability to adapt to changing programs. A new addition provides a visible new entrance, lively multi-purpose spaces facing the campus and a state-of-the-art storage facility for the priceless Hearst Museum of Anthropology collection. A reconfigured ground floor creates a clear and flexible organizational structure for the building and accommodates fitness oriented spaces to accompany the main pools and gymnasia. Circulation spaces double as inviting social spaces, galleries and lounges. Renewed courtyards and light wells bring natural light and greenery into all parts of the building. A café is located near the new main entrance.
