The University of South Florida (USF) research park is located in the southwest portion of the campus. The research park houses a very exciting mix of private companies collaborating with the university performing their own private research as well as commercial research facilities and office spaces. We provided the laboratory design expertise in support of the master planner, Wallace Roberts & Todd, as well as the overall architectural image of the 950,000 square foot research campus. Additionally, we designed the first building on this campus, the Interdisciplinary Research Building.

The 4-story, 140,000 square foot Interdisciplinary Research Building incorporates the latest technology for biology, bio-physics and chemistry generic laboratory facilities for both USF and private users. The design encompasses a flexible lab building comprised of lab modules of 900 square feet each. We have devised 60 modules in the building with 20 modules per floor. The facility currently features 70% laboratory space and 30% for office and support spaces. The unique design of the building allows this breakdown to be flexible for change with future occupancy. The first floor houses bio-physics (robotics and numerical laboratories), the second floor is equipped for biology laboratories and the third and fourth floor have chemistry, animal research and BSL-3 laboratories.
