Goldring Centre for High Performance Sport
Toronto, Ontario
The proposed University of Toronto Goldring Centre for High Performance Sport has potential to showcase a state-of-the-art sports facility within the heart of the campus and distinguish itself on the global stage of the 2015 Pan American Games. Situated on a dense urban site in the heart of the St. George Campus in downtown Toronto, the design incorporates two distinct programs including a 6,000 square meter student commons and the 11,000 square meter Goldring Centre for High Performance Sport.
The proposal strategically amalgamates these two programmatically and operationally independent entities to create a metaphorical city—a city within a city—charged with the enterprise and spectacle of sports excellence.
Above grade, the Goldring Centre for High Performance Sport consists of the 7-story Goldring Centre for High Performance Sport at the south end of the site and the 5-story student commons to the north separated by a shared, public, multi-level varsity arcade. Below grade is the field house, which occupies the entire site beneath a long-span ground floor transfer level.
